WHAT WE DO

MISSION
Our Mission is to provide education, rehabilitation and independent-living training for physically disabled children from all over Zimbabwe.

VISION
Our Goal is to positively touch upon and add value to the lives of disabled children in Zimbabwe. To develop the strength & skills of each child and to help them reach their full potential

We provide rehabilitation and boarding facilities to physical disabled children and deaf children from the ages of 3 to 20 years. The Centre works in conjunction with the King George VI Memorial School (a government school) and takes children from all over the country.

It is the only secondary education facility in Zimbabwe for disabled children and the only primary school in the southern Zimbabwe.
We also have a strong vocational training element for senior students.

20% of our children are orphans but a staggering 80% are vulnerable. The school takes children from pre-school to O level, ranging in age from 4 year olds to 20 year olds. There are 340 children at the Centre with 55% physically disabled, 25% deaf and 20% non disabled as we practise inclusive education.

KGVI is the only school in the whole of Zimbabwe offering a full secondary level education to disabled children and thus our students come from all over the country. We are proud that many of our children are able to go on to write their A level examinations at other schools and we also have a number of university graduates. At present we have 3 of our school leavers attending American colleges under the USAP programme.

Although we are primarily a centre and school for the disabled we have also chosen to help promote disability awareness in Zimbabwe. This is largely through our national sign language programme but also by using music and video to improve social awareness.

BACKGROUND
KGVI is a Non Governmental Organisation registered with the department of Social Welfare. It is a welfare organisation reliant on donations. The Centre is managed by 2 directors, supervised by a Management Board made up of prominent

The Directory of NGOs in Africa is a growing directory of (all) non-profit and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and emerging organisations in Africa. The listed information consists of the organisations contact information, its aims, current projects - activities, photo gallery, volunteering opportunities etc. Further, it features information that help donors have a peace of mind such as organisation registration number, a note to confirm organisations contactability, a link to an organisations financial auditor etc. The main aim of the directory (print and online) is to make information on NGOs in Africa readily available to businesses that want to be involved in Africa, donors, volunteers and ordinary people who want tomake a difference in Africa. We believe anyone and everyone can make a difference.
