WHAT WE DO

MISSION
To support disabled peoples organizations and empower their members with life-skills, financial and material resources and to represent their needs to the government, development partners and wider society.

VISION
A country in which people with disabilities can enjoy their fundamental human rights and have equal opportunities without prejudice or discrimination

BACKGROUND
As the peak body representing disabilities associations in Lesotho, LNFODs activities are focused on four key areas.
Disabled people in Lesotho are among the most marginalized and disadvantaged groups in the country. They are often forced to be dependent on relatives or other care-takers. According to the Lesotho Demographic Survey(200:1.),4.2% of the population has some form of disability and about one-third of these are children under 10 years. CURRENT PROJECTS

LNFOD is also implementing the project on organizational development intended to build the capacity of disabled peoples organisations so that they may be in the best position to represent their individual needs. The programme is also doing advocacy on the domestication of the un convention on the rights of persons with disabilities through the enactment of disability specific legislation. Currently the law is in its final stages. The challenge is the popularizing the act.

LNFOD is again implementing the project for the rural persons with disabilities in the 21 local community councils. The project links people with disabilities with the local service providers so as to enable people with disabilities to access social services on an equal footing with others whilst building the capacity of the local service providers service people with disabilities. We are also making research and manual on disability mainstreaming and advocacy to generate evidence based advocacy among people with disabilities.

The Directory of NGOs in Africa is a growing directory of (all) non-profit and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and emerging organisations in Africa. The listed information consists of the organisations contact information, its aims, current projects - activities, photo gallery, volunteering opportunities etc. Further, it features information that help donors have a peace of mind such as organisation registration number, a note to confirm organisations contactability, a link to an organisations financial auditor etc. The main aim of the directory (print and online) is to make information on NGOs in Africa readily available to businesses that want to be involved in Africa, donors, volunteers and ordinary people who want tomake a difference in Africa. We believe anyone and everyone can make a difference.
