WHAT WE DO

MISSION
We would like to provide a family home for each child in our care. We strive to create public awareness on the needs and rights of children. We strive to provide each child with everything needed to achieve his/her goals in life. We also actively support family reunification

VISION
Our vision is to let all the children in our care, grow up in a safe environment that allows them to participate, grow and excel, so that they can achieve their maximum potential and become responsible and caring adults

Lerato childrens Home is a place for abandoned or abused children. We would like to provide a family home for each child in our care.

BACKGROUND
Lerato Childrens Home is run by Pine and Lenie Pienaar since 2000. Pine and Lenie sold their private home to fund the purchase of the Childrens Home and to become full time parents and caregivers to their children placed in their care by the various Child Welfare agencies in the area.

Lenie is the primary full time caregiver taking the children to and from school and after school activities, daily care, doctors, dentists appointment etc. -the list you can well imagine is endless.
Lenie needs to request help from friends when she needs to be away from the house for a lengthy period during the day, for example spending the day in the court for one of the childrens cases.

CURRENT PROJECTS

The Home currently cares for 17 Children from babies to 18 years old, and as you can well appreciate, costs related to the caring for these children are high. These children have all been removed from parental care due to abuse of some nature. Some kids are individual and some are family groups. Most will never return to the care of their families -we are now their family.

Lerato Childrens Home receives government funding which caters for about a third of the homes requirements and the rest of the funds required to run the home, are from Pines salary, donations and fundraising efforts.

The Directory of NGOs in Africa is a growing directory of (all) non-profit and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and emerging organisations in Africa. The listed information consists of the organisations contact information, its aims, current projects - activities, photo gallery, volunteering opportunities etc. Further, it features information that help donors have a peace of mind such as organisation registration number, a note to confirm organisations contactability, a link to an organisations financial auditor etc. The main aim of the directory (print and online) is to make information on NGOs in Africa readily available to businesses that want to be involved in Africa, donors, volunteers and ordinary people who want tomake a difference in Africa. We believe anyone and everyone can make a difference.
