WHAT WE DO

MISSION
To elevate, develop and promote performance, literary and visual arts in the northwest region of Botswana, the entire country of Botswana and in Africa as a whole. To raise cultural awareness within local communities and to promote cultural tourism, with particular emphasis on the marginalised and indigenous cultures threatened with extinction.

VISION
To be a well organised, resourceful, educating and entertaining body of disciplined and dedicated artists and culture ambassadors

Lack of community recreational facilities and activities for Maun youth, fuelled the need to have regular performance arts events in this village/town. With the growth of the collective over the years, Poetavango has also embarked on a national tour as a way of reaching out to other areas of the country. Performance arts are exciting and vibrant art forms that bring to life issues that affect each and every Motswana: social, political, economic, health, environmental and otherwise.
Poetavango Spoken Word Poetry uses the arts in their wholeness to diversify the ways by which problems are being tackled and issues conveyed. Some of the ways of doing these are through our regular poetry sessions which have been going on since March 2008.
Our sessions have grown profoundly since the formation of the club, attracting local, national and international followers, with regular attendance exceeding 700 in some performances. Poetavango SWP also hosts other various disciplines of arts that include song and dance, music, theatre and others. With this steady growth, a bigger and more advanced festivity was birthed in 2011 to celebrate the burgeoning arts industry.

BACKGROUND
Poetavango Spoken Word Poetry is a performance orientated ARTS collective based in Maun, Botswana. It was formed in 2008 and started mainly a poetry collective that, over the years, grew into an umbrella organisation for different artistic expressions. Poetavango is a community-based and non-profit making organization fully registered with the Registrar of Societies. Poetavango is an active member of Ngamiland Council for Non-governmental Organizations (NCONGO).

The Directory of NGOs in Africa is a growing directory of (all) non-profit and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and emerging organisations in Africa. The listed information consists of the organisations contact information, its aims, current projects - activities, photo gallery, volunteering opportunities etc. Further, it features information that help donors have a peace of mind such as organisation registration number, a note to confirm organisations contactability, a link to an organisations financial auditor etc. The main aim of the directory (print and online) is to make information on NGOs in Africa readily available to businesses that want to be involved in Africa, donors, volunteers and ordinary people who want tomake a difference in Africa. We believe anyone and everyone can make a difference.
