WHAT WE DO

MISSION
TAWLA is committed to the professional advancement of its members and the promotion of womens rights and good governance.

VISION
Envisage a society that respects and upholds human rights.

Our focus as an organisation is to:
1. Establish mechanisms for sustainable access to legal aid for 1 00 000 vulnerable women and children I juveniles in confinement, within or nearby their communities
2. Promote gender equality in the appointment, promotion and election of women in decision
making bodies affecting access to justice by vulnerable women between 2015
3. Enhance capacity of TAWLA members for their involvement and ownership of the association
4. Strengthen the institutional capacity of TAWLA for sustainable service delivery to vulnerable women and children and attainment of high standards of corporate governance

Over the years, it has been our quest to ensure that TAWLAs vision and mission are carried out and our core values upheld. Some of our commendable achievements include reaching over 2 million people by raising awareness on legal rights through media awareness campaigns both on the radio and television, and training paralegals to be better equipped to serve our communities as well as providing legal aid directly to over 2,000 women and children per year.
We directly work for legal reform in Tanzania, including giving women the right to own property with the passage of the Land Act and revising the Sexual Offenses Act to give women protection from Gender Based Violence.

BACKGROUND
Tanzania Women Lawyers Association (TAWLA) is an NGO founded in 1989 and officially registered in 1990. (Reg. no. SO.7177)

The Directory of NGOs in Africa is a growing directory of (all) non-profit and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and emerging organisations in Africa. The listed information consists of the organisations contact information, its aims, current projects - activities, photo gallery, volunteering opportunities etc. Further, it features information that help donors have a peace of mind such as organisation registration number, a note to confirm organisations contactability, a link to an organisations financial auditor etc. The main aim of the directory (print and online) is to make information on NGOs in Africa readily available to businesses that want to be involved in Africa, donors, volunteers and ordinary people who want tomake a difference in Africa. We believe anyone and everyone can make a difference.
